Kovak was honored at the Mid-Atlantic Painting Biennial and will next be featured in an upcoming exhibition at the University of Central Florida.
Senior Associate Dean for Academics and Student Success and Associate Teaching Professor Kristen Letts Kovak was recently awarded “Best of Show” at the 2024 Mid-Atlantic New Painting Biennial for her piece Fern Hollow. Selected from over 600 submissions, the work is one of 77 featured in the exhibition, which runs through January 19, 2025, at the University of Mary Washington Galleries. The biennial was juried by Heather Hakimzadeh, Senior Curator at Virginia MOCA, and celebrates contemporary painting across the region.
In January, Kovak will present new work in “Out of Order | Let Down,” a two-person exhibition with Grace Mikell Ramsey at the University of Central Florida Art Gallery. The show explores themes of female perseverance through abstraction, naturalism, and fantasy. Kovak’s paintings reflect her experiences living with a hidden disability, combining vibrance and ambiguity to challenge expectations and invite deeper reflection. The exhibition runs from January 9 to February 7, 2025, with an opening reception and artist talk on January 9.
